Wondering is the city life is for you?
There are a handful of popular Baltimore City, MD neighborhoods that will always thrive. In south Baltimore the two popular areas are Federal Hill and Locust Point, sharing the same 21230 zip code. Federal Hill is just south of the harbor. Most will agree that it’s a busy area, full of great dining, live music, festivals, parks, shopping, and easy access to 95, 295, and 395/Downtown. Locust Point is just east of Federl Hill. It’s been my experience that those that prefer Locust Point over Federal Hill are looking to be near all the things the city has to offer, but quieter and less congested.
While the social scene helps with the area’s popularity, the proximity to some of Maryland’s best hospitals, the corporations downtown, our international airport (BWI), and the easy access to major beltways to get to both DC and Annapolis, also make South Baltimore a high demand area. Whether you are a young professional, starting a family, or empty nesters looking to downsize, the Locust Point area has something for you.
Why rent?
While there’s no shortage of locals, Baltimore City, MD is a very big transit town. People come from all over come to your universities, like University of Maryland. But the area also offers good opportunities to those in the workforce. Johns Hopkins, UMMC, MedStar Health, Fort Meade, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, McCormick, Amazon, CareFirst, T. Rowe Price, Whiting-Turner, are just some of the heavy hitters in the area.
Moving from out of town and out of state is stressful. Adding a home purchase in this tough market can only increase your stress levels. I often suggest to clients to find an area they realy like and rent for a year or two to get a better “lay of the land”.
